Well that's what I thought and that it would try to connect to the 
strongest signal. My point is that using iwconfig, ip or ifconfig, I 
couldn't manipulate it at all to see if I could control it.

That happened to me when I used to live in town. I put "reject" 
statement in the dhclient.conf. Where I live now, my nearest neighbor is 
a quarter mile away and I forget about these things. :)
