[Clfs-support] udev and usb disk poblems

I recently built  clfs  (AMD64 cpu  kernel3.10.4 ).  It  had eudev  
(equivalent to udev-204-  a udev  fork of systemd ) 

 usb 
sticks were  recognised on pluging-in 
but  cannot be mounted.
'

I get lines  like this in the boot messages
'sd 4:0:0:0: [sdc] No Caching mode page present 

though 
lsusb shows the device as recognised, there are no entries in the /dev for it

help will be appreciated
