[Clfs-support] clfs 1.2.0 powerpc 5.14 configure: error: cannot compute suffix of object files: cannot compile

Hi all,
I've been following the CLFS powerpc instructions from version 1.2.0,
currently the latest stable version.

I believe I haven't deviated from the instructions at all, but I get
an error when it comes to section 5.14. Cross gcc-4.6.0 - static.

After the command "make all-gcc all-target-libgcc", I (eventually) get
an error message "configure: error: cannot compute suffix of object
files: cannot compile", see below:

I can't find any error messages in config.log and the lines appended
to gcc/config/rs6000/sysv4.h seem to have been added successfully.

I'm running Ubuntu in vmware player:

uname -a
Linux ubuntu 2.6.32-42-generic #95-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jul 25 15:57:54 UTC
2012 i686 GNU/Linux
