Yes, there are 8 GB still available

What else

I installed pam, then re-installed shadow, then em8300 (dxr3 drivers),
then VirtualBox and now samba, in that order

It is by now. There might be another package in the future

No, there are not other libraries except those indicated. That is the
whole ldconfig result. Normally there are no messages at all.
I'll try reinstalling pam and see what happens. Thanks.
