FWIW.....I built  SVN-20080714-x86_64-Multilib last week or such, I think I noticed
a similar thing. The gcc-4.2.4-specs-1.patch is actually living in stable repos.
IIRC.....the gcc-4.2.4-PR31490-1.patch -was- in the book at that time....

....actually, I don't think we apply PR31490 patch in Section 5.7, but instead later
on @ section 6.4 and 10.10 or such....which is all there in the book...
