[Clfs-support] [Clfs-dev] Jhalfs CLFS patch

Many thanks for keeping the live CD updated.

Since reading about the update last year I
have been testing it in a wide range of machinery
from ancient to modern.
Only a few would boot. Most would not.
All would boot with the original LFS live CD versions.

I am now testing the latest version dated 15 September.
So far only in two machines.
One would boot with last years version and one would not.

The one that did boot before now stops with the last words:-

early console in decompress_kernel

Decompressing Linux... Parsing ELF ... done.
Booting the kernel.

_ [ Blinking cursor for ever ]

The one that did not boot before drops me into a shell as
it did with last years version.
I never get any further.

sh-3.2#

modprobe does not recognise the modules but they are
clearly there.

These two cases are typical of the others that
 would not boot.

I have tested by putting the iso image onto the
hard disk and attempting to boot from GRUB or GRUB2
but always same result as a boot from CD.

I will be testing the latest on more machinery but
grateful of any help.

John

I added git to the updated livecd and removed some framebuffer drivers
which affect users wnating to use X. I went back to the default vga
and vesa drivers in the kernel. Outside of rebuilding all of X, ,and
all of the other programs requiring those libs, it is best to just use
vesa for now.

Give the updated livecd a test in your builds. I'm going to be using
it for build logs and test logs for the upcoming 2.1 release next month.

I also updated the jhalfs source with the jhalfs-clfs patch I linked
yesterday.

If you need help using jhalfs, read the docs in the main jhalfs-trunk
directory as the jhalfs user in the livecd's environment (su - jhalfs)
then cd to jhalfs-trunk.

Sincerely,

William Harrington
