I have mips system images that let you build linux from scratch under
qemu.

You should have a mips-native shell prompt with gcc and everything. See

I started a new job last month and lost control of my email, I'm about
14,000 messages behind at the moment. (Filters glitched, fixing 'em
requires a reboot, too many open windows... Same old story.)
