Comment:

 The comment about 2.6.20 appears to be incorrect (dunno, I haven't tried
 to build against that in a very long while, maybe there was an issue
 somewhere - I think we were using our own headers in those days).

  Yes, this might come back to bite us when we use a newer kernel, but with
 2.6.24 (and 2.6.24.4) it builds fine on the arches I have available.
